Last week, at a VR lecture on Network States, Balaji Srinivasan made the following (paraphrased) comment: content and community will be just as important as code in the next era of the internet.
While code drives the actions of computers in the digital world, content and community will drive the action of the humans that inhabit that digital world.
This line from the lecture has stuck with me because it's been my lived experience for the past 18 months.
Building MyMBA has been all about content and community.
Content:
Content is important because content creates a spotlight.
Tweets, blogs, videos, memes, and art all signal and attract like-minded people from every corner of the internet.
With MyMBA, business and career related content has attracted builders, entrepreneurs, and business-minded people to the program.
Community:
Community follows content. With direction, vision, and values established through content, a community can form and drive towards a shared goal.
With MyMBA, learning and career advancement has been our goal.
Learning is difficult. There are millions of other things people can spend their time on. Have you seen how many Netflix series are out there? Have you scrolled Instagram or Twitter?
But, I've learned with MyMBA that a community with shared values and goals (established through content) can support, encourage, and provide accountability that can accomplish more than anyone could by themselves.
Combine content and community and leverage the power of code, and we'll build great things in this next phase of the internet.
