Last night, we had MyMBA's 4th Cohort final Meetup. With another cohort in the books, I wanted to celebrate and reflect on some wins from the cohort.
At MyMBA, the 3 Cs (Courses, Content, and Connections) facilitate our learning.
Content
Through building MyMBA, I've learned that content (weekly essays) have been the most impactful part of the experience. MyMBA's 4th Cohort created some incredible content that:
Supported learning of core business concepts
Created serendipitous business relationships online
Built a portfolio to show others their knowledge and interests
In all, we created over 50 essays diving deeper into the business strategy of companies and exploring our interests. Check out this board with some of our highlights:
And here are some additional highlights:
Andrew wrote about The Good and Bad of Commercial Real Estate.
Chris wrote about the Plant Based Meat Industry.
Dante wrote about How To Be Your Own Bank.
Silas wrote about SaaS ESG Reporting.
Taylor wrote about Prisma's potential as an online school.
Austin wrote about the intensity of rivalry within the Real Estate Private Equity Industry.
Will wrote about the IT consulting space with IT Consulting in the Modern Age.
Katherine wrote about Financial Literacy, the Gender Gap & Ellevest.
Christian wrote about Design Thinking.
Sepher wrote about the construction and engineering industry.
Connections
Writing is critical to learning and exploring topics of interest. But, to take this learning to the next level, we emphasize making connections with others in the business world.
Every Tuesday night, we met with our cohort to discuss our writing, the courses, and additional learning around creating and connecting online. We learned how to craft the perfect Elevator Pitch with Katy Culver. We learned about the power of creating and connecting online with a MyMBA alumni, Ryan Gavin. We learned how to negotiate a job offer through a negotiations simulation with other Members from the cohort.
In addition, we met with business leaders to learn from people who have done it themselves.
We met with Gregory Davidson, CEO & Co-Founder at Lalo, to talk about Lalo, founding, startups, and sales
We met with Al Dea, Author, Podcast Host, Advisor, Product Marketer, and Founder - Workplace and Career Expert, to talk about navigating careers
We met with Jennifer Strout, CEO & Founder of MotivateU, to talk about MotivateU, fundraising, the power of social media, and founding
We met with Stephen Cassell, Chief Marketing Officer, to talk about business strategy and leadership
Courses
Finally, we completed two business school courses.
We applied our learning through writing and our weekly discussions.
As noted in my previous post, we made some improvements with Cohort 4: we created additional opportunities to meet with Members of the cohort with happy hours and writing workshops, we overhauled the onboarding process, we improved our elevator pitch workshop, we built out our internal resources, and we introduced Alumni Mentors.
One initiative I loved implementing this cohort was the personal Bets and Goals Package. This package outlined each Member's goals and asymmetric bets for the cohort (outside of the courses, content, and connections). In line with my essay, 3 Types of Bets to Increase Your Potential, we mapped out asymmetric bets for each of us to take during the program. This was a great initiative to hold each other accountable and take advantage of the opportunities created from taking asymmetric bets.
The end of a cohort is always a bittersweet moment. On one hand, I always miss the discussions and opportunities to read Members’ writing. On the other hand, I love to take a step back, reflect, and celebrate the wins from the past 8 weeks.
Stay on the lookout for exciting announcements about improvements and updates to MyMBA.
